Photopress 0.9.6
In an effort to fulfill a New Year’s resolution, I’ve (hopefully) squashed some bugs and bundled together a release of Photopress. This version works for me with WP 2.0.6. I did have one problem, which I think was related to changing hosts, not Photopress: the collation on one of the tables was different from the other one, breaking the queries. Some clicking around in phpMyAdmin fixed it.
Download it and give it a try (but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you to keep your old files if they’re working for you): photopress.zip or photopress.tar.gz.

Okay, so photopress worked…then I moved my entire directory to republish my site to my directory and ever since I have been getting an error. I upgraded - deleted everything and then uploaded a local copy of the photos - still getting an error that looks like this:
The photos folder is not writable
It doesn’t look like you can use Photopress at this time because the directory you have specified (1) isn’t writable. Check the permissions on the directory and for typos in your configuration.
I don’t know which permissions would have changed or why. When I used the CHMOD button within photopress it says its been successful - but not so much. So, any suggestions? I do have access to change permissions of all my directories -I guess I just am not sure of what the proper configuration is.

Hello
great plugin, just what I need, but (as always)…. Is it possible to make a popup with the previous-next links in it. Or the pp_album.php to be a popup. I like to have my posts to have thumbnails in it, and when you click them a popup with previous-next in them appears. Is there a easy fix or is it just to difficult. Love te plugin though.

Dear Isaac,
Thank you for the update!
I am still running on version 0.9.2 of PhotoPress as it was less buggy than later versions so far as my installation of WordPress 2.0.2 is concerned, and to which I still adhere largely owing to concerns of compatibility with your excellent photo-concept. I have been visiting your site every now and then to find out if you were in the mood to keep abreast of the ambitious WordPress updates.
Honestly speaking, I consider PhotoPress to be the ideal option for maintaining photos on WordPress. Anyone may view my other website projects from links on my homepage to validate my opinion.
I’ll wait for feedback from you and other testers, and happily upgrade, if viable.
Best wishes,
Taimur

Hello
maybe you want to try something like this for the next upgrade.
if you give your popupwindow a name like “poppy”. like so:
image_popup = window.open(”",”poppy”,”height=” + height + “,width=” + width + “,toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes”);
the images will open in the same popup window. So users off your site don’t have to close multiple pop ups after looking at your photos.
great plugin

Hi there, some other bugs…
1) popup.php when you upload a photo and try to insert directly when is uploaded category is missing, i must delete this option due a lot of confusion of editors….
2) Another bug is that I can delete categories, I have some categories duplicated and I can’t do anyhting under your admin section.
3) SEO Things… I can’t set up a title for album or photos in a proper way, the title is always the title of Blog.
Thanks

0.9.6 does not work on wp 2.1 (using a release candidate). The quicktag does not show up in the editor.

Does this work well in the NEW 2.1 Wordpress? Or maybe you havn’t had a chance to test that yet.

Issac,
Thanks for the great plugin, any chance of an update for Wordpress 2.1 which has just been released. There seems to be a minor issue which is causing the button in the editor to not be displayed.
Regards,
George

I totally agree
I looked for a nice plugin to manage image, and to use them in posts the one that i like is photopress. I’m happy to test a new version.
I saw on compatibility plugin list for WP 2.1 that photopress is not fully compatible.
I really hope in a new version fully compatible with 2.1, are u planning for it?
Thanks for your work and sorry for my english

Hi!
I’m having a little problem, hidden categories are showing in the album view by manually introducing category name.
I think you should modify the script to block hidden categories from showing in album view in any case

Hi Isaac,
It’s cool have a new version.
Actually I use the version 0.8.5 (the most stable version for me, at least) for WP 2.0.7, on this days I gone a update, I hope works so far so good.
Have a nice day!
@ndrés
P.D. I hope works for WP 2.1, I didn’t gone a update for a couple a weeks.

Starting with Wordpress 2.1 there is a new WYSIWYG editor…so the Photopress button no longer shows and you cannot insert images anymore into blog posts.
Hopefully you have some time to check this out

Hi there,
Having some issues with WP 2.1
Anyone else tried it on 2.1 ?

Hello,
I downloaded Photopress.0.9.6 uploaded the folder into the wp-content/plug-ins folder but after activating and trying to upload any image I get this dialog box
“There was an error uploading IMG_849824.jpg, most likely because it is larger than 512 kilobytes.”
Should I resize my images before uploading? or did I miss something else? Currently the blog I have uses the “Collage Effect” 3 column theme. Will photopress impact my blog? I’m a photographer and would like a quicker and easier method to include multiple pictures in my blog.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Hi Isaac.
I have been using PhotoPress 0.9.4 in WP 2.0.5 for some time now and I must say it is just a fantastic plug in. I am putting together a blog for a friend of mine using WP 2.1 and PP 0.9.6 but have had some difficulties. The button does not show itself in the new visual editor and in the code window, while a “Photos” button does appear, I get the mysterious error “A editor instance must be focused before entering this command” Even if the cursor has been inserted in to the window.
Any Suggestions?

Isaac,
I’m sure you’re already well aware, but I thought I’d let you know that the PhotoPress button doesn’t show up in the Write Post page on WordPress 2.1.
Hopefully it’s an easy fix.
Everything else works, so I’m able to work around this little inconvenience, but it saves quite a few clicks to have it right there.
Thanks for a great plugin!

Photopress 0.9.6 is still giving problems with WP 2.1
I have no idea what it is, but for me, Photopress 0.9.2 is still the most stable recent version.

Photopress 0.9.6 is working perfectly well with WP 2.1 on all my sites - just remember to click “Update Permalink Structure” in the permalink options after activating the plugin.
There are two minor problems that I would like to get rid of:
1. The thumbnails are arranged haphazardly in all galleries (I don’t know what to change in the style sheet to have them appear neatly as before, i.e. two thumbnails per row. See here:
http://taimur.sarangi.info/images/
2. In certain cases, the same “Posts with this image” link appears several times under the photograph. For example:

Taimur, if 0.9.6 works under 2.1 that’s welcome news for me. I had problems displaying the quicktag after a 2.0.7 > 2.1 upgrade, but omitted to rebuild the permalink structure. I’ll try when I get to my test site and let you know.

Photopress 0.9.6 is not working with my WP 2.1 installation, it was in the former WP version but now, the toolbar icon does not appear.. I have enabled and disabled the option “Use buttonsnap library:” but none fixes the problem. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Using 9.6 in 2.1 I am unable to insert a photo from photo press. I do not see the photopress icon, but if i click on Code there is a button titled Photos, which works to upload photos, but when I try to insert I get a message in a Microsoft Internet Explorer box “A editor instance must be focused before using this command.” Any ideas?

well, working fine for me in wp21 and opera.
just having a problem. when viewing a foto in gallery, somehow it uses the $s variable that wp uses as the search item, puting image name in search box.
also, pp_is_album works everywere but not when viewing a single photo.
also, is there any way to show in album more than two columns? in my theme there’s to much wasted space using only two

Photopress would be the ideal photo gallery/uploader/image management plugin for Wordpress.
One big problem is its conflict with widgets. This wouldn’t be that problematic, except there is interference with the RSS widget. Any ideas?
February 13th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
I tried installing Photopress 0.9.6 and then also tried with 0.9.7. Neither version would work with my WP2.1 .
The problem seems to be in the use of the old user_levels. Even when I’m logged in as Administrator Photopress gives the message “Ask the administrator to promote you.” and won’t allow me to upload images.
Anyone else have this problem or know how I can fix it? I hope Photopress can upgrade to using roles instead of user_levels soon!
March 14th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
To fix the “ask the administrator to promote you” message with a tiny hack, simply replace line 14 of popup.php file with this:
if (!current_user_can(’publish_posts’)) // One-line hack to override $user_level
